Celebrating International Women’s Day
By Kate Beckwith
The business of type has been male-dominated from the start, but women have made amazing strides into the field over the last 100 years. Ten foundries founded by women call Type Network home, and our library includes typefaces from nearly 40 talented female designers… and counting!
There are a number of women working behind the scenes to make TN possible. From helping customers understand their licensing options and driving sales (general manager Michelle Perham), to expanding the wider typographic knowledge base (office manager/content writer Kate Beckwith and social media manager Abigayle White), and from guiding our custom type design and consulting work (director of custom type Dyana Weissman) to generating awesome graphics (graphic designer Alexis Reid), these efforts pave the way for Type Network’s partner foundries to thrive and our custom design and consulting work to reach our clients.
We would also like to highlight the astonishingly underappreciated positions of quality assurance and engineering. These women contribute significantly to the high quality and design of typefaces in our library. Women like former vice president Jill Pichotta, our library manager M. Glenda Bellarosa, and freelance hinter Saga Söderback all ensure that Type Network’s custom and retail offerings are the best of the best.
