Mazumbá is rhythmically wild and aggressive, a typeface inspired by the beats of Candombe drums, an Afro-Uruguayan rhythm honored as humanity's intangible heritage. A variable weight font with dramatic extremes and subtle midpoints, it’s full of personality.

Echoing the spirited African dance accompanying this vibrant music, Mazumbá is a project rooted in history, culture, and tradition. Its extremes create eye-catching, dynamic headlines, while its intermediates are finely tuned for immersive reading, offering classic proportions with robust terminals and a focus on legibility.

The lighter stencil style reflects the sharp, precise notes of the "chico" drum, while the heaviest (black) embodies the deep, rich sound of the "piano" drum. In between, the regular weight captures the rhythmic dialogue of the "repique."

Mazumbá dances freely, expanding and tensing its forms like the music it draws from, fusing restless energy with serene vibes.
