Marat, designed by Ludwig Übele while a student at Type and Media (KABK), began life as a sans serif before gradually morphing into lively serif forms. Moderate contrast and strong serifs make the lighter weights take on the qualities of a typewriter-like slab, but Marat’s underlying structure squarely adopts contemporary Antiqua proportions. The alternating angular and rounded corners give the face a soft, friendly appearance. Tense curves perfectly complement the roman cuts. Marat won a prestigious Certificate of Excellence in Type Design from the Type Directors Club in 2008. LudwigType, 2008.
