IvyOra Display is the Display family of IvyOra, a Dutch Old Face revival designer Jan Maack produced from historical specimens found at the Museum Plantin-Moretus in Antwerpen.
Maack drew most of his inspiration from a folio sheet of typefaces issued in 1695 by printer Dirck Voskens called Proef van Letteren. The types are attributed to Nicolaes Briot, with Italics from Christoffel van Dijck (known in his time as the greatest punch-cutter of Old Face types in Holland).
The Regular weights were his historical starting point, but to make the font family versatile, Maack fleshed it out from Thin to Bold. The very thin weights make it unique from similar classic designs.
The Thin weights might be hard to use on the web if they are not set in large sizes. But for editorial use, especially in Display size, the very thin fonts will have an impact.
These Dutch Baroque types are assumed to be the basis for Caslon’s typefaces from 1728, so IvyOra might be considered as an alternative to Caslon.
