See you at TypeCon 2017!

We’re headed to a magical place full of people who love type as much as we do.
Type Network will be well represented at TypeCon, the annual typography conference presented by the Society of Typographic Aficionados (SOTA). The 2017 edition will be held this week in Boston, where we have deep roots. We’re delighted to sponsor the event, and to have some of our colleagues and friends on the stage. Here’s a handy overview of some of our TypeCon activities:

Friday, August 25, David Jonathan Ross will present “EXTRA! EXTRA!”
On Friday, August 25, Type Network foundry partner, type designer, and font technician David Jonathan Ross (DJR) will appear on the main stage at 2:45 p.m. “EXTRA! EXTRA!” will discuss the extremes of weight and width adopted by display type when it needs to fill a specific amount of available space. DJR will also explore the new possibilities for typography offered by variable fonts.

Sunday, August 27: Yves Peters will present “Type With Character(s)—Reclaiming Control Over OpenType Fonts.”
On Sunday, August 27, Type Network writer Yves Peters will present a talk at 8:35 a.m. The latest installment of “Type With Character(s)—Reclaiming Control Over OpenType Fonts” will give a brief overview of the way humans in the West have interacted with type throughout history, followed by a progress report of the efforts of the Adobe Typography Customer Advisory Board to improve the typographic interface in Adobe Creative Cloud applications.

Sunday, August 27: Jill Pichotta will serve as a “critter” during the TypeCon Type Critique sessions.
Also on Sunday, August 27, at 2:00 p.m, Type Network type designer and font-production guru Jill Pichotta will join Akira Kobayashi and Downer for the sixteenth edition of TypeCon’s popular (and feared) Type Crit.

Throughout the conference, we’ll bang the drum for Type Network foundry partner, type designer, and master lettering artist Richard Lipton. Lipton will offer a glimpse into his process as he creates gorgeous calligraphic pieces at our booth.
Type Network is excited to sponsor the Infamous Type Quiz and Silent Auction and party on Saturday night, August 26, from 8:30 to 11:00 p.m. We’re contributing some cool prizes, and we’ll be testing our mettle as we try to get the best scores in a room full of type experts. You can find all the details in the conference program. Drop by to say hello and grab some goodies at our sponsor booth, open throughout the conference! We’d love to chat with you and answer any questions you may have—that’s what we’re there for.
