Shiva Nallaperumal puts a twist on the style, playing with our eyes and imagination.

Rekall, Bold Monday’s first collaboration with Indian type designer Shiva Nallaperumal, is a mind-twisting design that originated as a logotype and typeface for a high-fashion streetwear brand. The aggressive and forceful shapes are inspired by the clothing they were representing. The forms shift from stretched chunky blocks in the heavier weights to lighter and sharper spikes, progressively increasing the difficulty in deciphering the text. For this futuristic stencil, Nallaperumal built the characters out of elements rather than the more traditional method of “cutting” the designed letters. The result is unexpected and perfectly in sync with the designer’s intentions.
The display family is understandably best used above 24pt. Besides the playful range of weights, which are also translated to the width of the characters in Rekall One, Rekall Two is a series of five decorative styles, which make for great impact and style. Across the family, the x-height and white space within and between the letters remain consistent, which facilitate the combination of styles even in the same word, and call out for creative settings, especially in posters, record sleeves, t-shirts, and displays.
