Why X+O? Because an X+O is one of the most primal marks a person can make. Because we use those marks to close messages to people we care for. Making new letters is making new ways for people to say, “Hey there, kamutsa, bom dia, zdrávo, kako ste! I see you over there and want to show you something I’ve written. I’d love to see something you’ve written, too.” All the type at XO is made by Patric King, who’s been making letters since 1994 — first with Thirstype, then Village, and now on his own.

Gia is a family in seven weights with unicase options and true small caps, designed after the iconic letterforms of the first digital tech revolution of the 1960’s to 1980’s. These sinewy, curved letterforms popped up in logotypes and music videos and upright video games of the era: NASA, The Buggles, Atari, Pong, Sega, Namco, Stern, Devo, Apple. Gia pays homage to that letterform, and is named after Gia Carangi, the iconic face of early 1980’s pop fashion.

XO Type Co

Havelock is an all-caps display family, made specifically for designers to layer and play with. It combines hard and soft, geometry and pattern. Layer and mix styles within a single word, retaining coherent visual tone. Havelock Solid operates as a background layer, Multiline sits nicely atop it, Inline frames Multiline’s center strokes, and Stencil lets details peek through. If you’re working with translucent color, the blending can be gorgeous.
