Midwest Type is Jesse R. Ewing’s typeface design studio specializing in approachable, practical, and versatile fonts for influential design projects. Comic books, lab equipment, address machines, movie posters, and vintage ads have all inspired different families. Addressotype is based on lettering from a vintage ad for the Addressograph-Multigraph Corporation, manufacturers of the Addressograph addressing machine. In days when the U.S. postal service delivered everything, mailing addresses were as important as email addresses are today. The Addressograph machines stamped out dog-tag-like plates used to print mailing labels at high volume. Embodying the company’s work ethic and durability, Addressotype recalls the gas pipe form of lettering popular in the 30s and 40s, updated to reflect the “streamlining” trend popular during the period. Designed in collaboration with Sam Potts.

Addressotype Slab is the serifed cousin to Addressotype, a constructed, streamlined gaspipe design with gently rounded forms. Great for retro branding projects!

Babs Sans is inspired by movie poster lettering of the 50s and 60s, particularly posters by Saul Bass. Babs was originally drawn for Seat of the Pants Productions and was named for the founder’s dog. Babs Sans is uppercase only.

Bang-Zoom! is a traditional comic book font based on lettering by award-winning illustrator and letterer Galen Showman. Its five weights and styles, and smart OpenType features, allow for professional comic book typesetting.
