Daniel Perraudin is a type designer, educator, and partner at Capitale Design Studio, which he co-founded in 2015. He holds an MA in type design from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (The Netherlands), as well as a diploma from the University of Applied Sciences in Graz (Austria).Before establishing his own type design practice, he worked for agencies and clients in the fields of branding, corporate design, and wayfinding, gaining valuable knowledge on how typefaces need to function as part of a comprehensive visual system. As a result, he designs typefaces that are both timelessly modern and elegantly robust.Daniel Perraudin is a lecturer for typography and type design at the University of Applied Sciences in Graz (Austria). He has published typefaces with Type Network and Fontwerk.

Signs painted on a removable substrate survive as collectors’ items. Books published on sign painting show card writing provide an abundance of information on materials methods used in the sign trade; they guide a contemporary practitioner in the traditional style. Downer continues down the path of commercial brush lettering while adapting his personal notions of letterform and proportion to computer-based design of type; he introduces a particular, non-typographic genus of alphabet to the Type Network library of fonts.

Juliet Shen started out as a painter and became a graphic designer out of economic necessity. For more than 25 years the profession suited her aspirations just fine. Then she was asked to teach typography and her life changed. All she has learned since then about typeface design has convinced her that it&#x27;s the tao of applied art, which was capped by a year in the MA Typeface Design program at the University of Reading.Now she designs for a few select clients, crafts typefaces, teaches, makes letterpress prints, and studies tai chi. She has designed a custom font family for Oxford University Press and a Lushootseed font for the Tulalip Tribes based on traditional Salish aesthetics. Juliet was born in New York where her father was a translator for the United Nations. She lives in Seattle and teaches typography at the School of Visual Concepts.

William Berkson is a philosopher and author of Fields of Force, Learning from Error and Pirke Avot: Timeless Wisdom for Modern Life. He caught the type virus as a teenager from his uncle J. Ben Lieberman, founder of the American Printing History Association and and author of Types of Typefaces. The slow-acting virus became virulent when he turned 60, and he became a real “man of letters” by drawing Williams Caslon for Font Bureau. He lives on Lake Anne in Reston, Virginia, where he sits at his computer and produces letters and words.
