Type Designer
Thomas Mettendorf
Thomas Mettendorf is a designer, musician, and educator based in Karlsruhe Germany. His type design work gained wider recognition after his typeface Café Retro won 2nd place in a 1998 type design competition sponsored by GarageFonts.
Since that time he has developed a wide range of extensive display and sans serif typefaces for the foundry, many of which you can see in use by institutions such as the HAU theater in Berlin, the HABOURFRONT literature festival in Hamburg, and INKA the cultural city magazine of Karlsruhe.
His largest font family, Metroflex, was used by Jacek Utko as the corporate typeface of the award-winning Estonian newspaper Äripäev.
