Petra Dočekalová is a Czech type designer, calligrapher, and lettering artist focused on creating new letterings and script typefaces. Her Master’s thesis explored Czechoslovak calligraphy, and in 2020 she completed her PhD at the Type Design and Typography Studio at UMPRUM in Prague with research titled Fostering Increased Appreciation for Handwriting, Penmanship, and a Personal Handwriting Style.

Since 2013, Petra has been a member and partner of Briefcase Type Foundry, and in 2025 she launched her independent studio, Petra-D Type Foundry. Her work blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary typographic innovation, across calligraphy, type design and editorial projects such as TYPO9010 and Jaroslav Benda 1882–1970.

Petra frequently speaks at type conferences, leads international lettering workshops, and has received multiple awards — including three TDC Awards of Typographic Excellence — for her contributions to type and lettering design.
