RST Reactor

Type designer and teacher. He studied the Master Program in Typography at FADU-UBA, Argentina. He currently teaches typography and graphic design at FADU-UDELAR, the Public University of Uruguay. Over the years, he has spearheaded several projects focused on the historical preservation and promotion of Uruguayan culture and music. With a deep interest in highlighting Latin American heritage, he strives to make it visible through typography. He has designed custom fonts and visual identities for various clients, including collaborations with Pentagram. Additionally, he has served as a jury member for the 9th edition of the Tipos Latinos Biennale and has shared his expertise through workshops and international conferences.

Mazumbá is rhythmically wild and aggressive, a typeface inspired by the beats of Candombe drums, an Afro-Uruguayan rhythm honored as humanity&#x27;s intangible heritage. A variable weight font with dramatic extremes and subtle midpoints, it’s full of personality.Echoing the spirited African dance accompanying this vibrant music, Mazumbá is a project rooted in history, culture, and tradition. Its extremes create eye-catching, dynamic headlines, while its intermediates are finely tuned for immersive reading, offering classic proportions with robust terminals and a focus on legibility.The lighter stencil style reflects the sharp, precise notes of the &quot;chico&quot; drum, while the heaviest (black) embodies the deep, rich sound of the &quot;piano&quot; drum. In between, the regular weight captures the rhythmic dialogue of the &quot;repique.&quot; Mazumbá dances freely, expanding and tensing its forms like the music it draws from, fusing restless energy with serene vibes.

RST Reactor is a typeface that explores extremes and pushes them to their limit. Designed to adapt to any design, it adjusts to the environment without losing its essence. Reactor is a variable font with two axes: weight and width, both stretched to the limit to create a highly versatile family.The condensed styles evoke 19th-century woodtype, while the wider versions offer modernity. In between lies a classic grotesque: discreet, modern, and simple. Regarding weight, Reactor offers a clean, minimalist look in its lighter versions, while the heavier styles fill spaces with bold messages and high impact. In the middle, it stays neutral and unobtrusive.Though the extremes are meant for large sizes, the versatility of its shapes allows the intermediate styles to work well in longer texts, keeping content at the forefront. A variable font built to provide multiple levels of hierarchy for complex projects.
