<p data-block-key="gsv3h">Jo Malinis is a graphic designer, type designer, and educator from the Philippines. While engaging in custom type projects for brand identities, she slowly developed a passion for type design, propelling her to delve deeper into the field. In 2020, Jo founded Type63, an initiative that aims to serve as a platform to celebrate and showcase type design and typography by Filipinos. In 2022, she earned a postgraduate certificate from Type West at the Letterform Archive. Currently, Jo is an instructor at the University of the Philippines Diliman College of Fine Arts, teaching Visual Design Communication and Type Design.</p>

<p data-block-key="67py7">Salbabida Sans draws inspiration from the Filipino term &quot;salbabida,&quot; which translates to &quot;lifesaver&quot; or &quot;water floater.&quot; The font&#x27;s design reflects the inflated rubber vests or objects that one can put on, or hold onto, to keep afloat in water. Originally introduced as part of a fundraising initiative to support the victims of Typhoon Ulysses in the Philippines in 2020, Salbabida Sans received an overwhelming response from the community. The campaign&#x27;s motto, &quot;Buy a font to help keep the Philippines afloat!,&quot; enabled us to raise substantial funds for relief efforts. Since then, Salbabida Sans has undergone significant improvements. The Pro version now features an expanded character set and upgraded glyph designs. </p>
