Carolinéale

He is a graphic and type designer based in Strasbourg. He specializes in type design, editorial design and visual identities for cultural fields.He started his career as an editorial and graphic designer in Luxembourg and France before graduating from the ANRT, Atelier National de Recherche Typographique in Nancy, France, where he focused on the early medieval musical notations. In 2017 the research was funded by the French National Center for Visual Arts. Carolinéale, a resulting typeface that embraces this project is to be published soon at PampaType.Since 2016 he is a contributive type designer at PampaType where he collaborates in the extension of the foundry’s catalogue as well as in the design of custom type projects.

Originally the result of a research project on the Carolinian minuscule, coined in the Frankish monasteries of the eighth century, as well as on the musical notation systems of the time, Carolinéale subsequently undertook a seven-year process to evolve into a versatile sans serif of contemporary elegance. However, its voice still conveys a subtle touch of history. Equipped with all the typographic goodies the discerning typographer could need, Carolinéale is both a comfortably legible text face and a powerful display type that will stimulate readers at larger sizes.
