A Frere-Jones classic branches out

Lots of new growth on the Interstate family tree.
Nearly 30 years after Tobias Frere-Jones made the first Interstate drawings, his iconic design is heading off in new directions with a multi-language collection. Greek and Cyrillic character sets plus innumerable accented and special characters mean this family of 40 is now at home in nearly as many languages. And, as of 2020, the complete collection resides at Frere-Jones Type.

Rooted in the highways of America, this language extension means Interstate is ripe for propagation to points east. The slanted terminals look perfectly at home on Greek and Cyrillic stems, and the efficiency and gruffness of the design are equally well translated. With three widths (regular, condensed and compressed) in eight weights ranging from Hairline to Ultra Black as well as italics, this fine-grained family will get your cross-platform message out across cultures.
